Description

Hands down, my favourite snack is hummus, but store-bought hummus can sometimes have added oil.  This recipe from High Carb Hannah is delicious, easy-to-make and oil-free.  She uses aqua faba which is the liquid in the garbanzo bean (chickpea) can, so be sure to save it when you’re draining your garbanzo beans.  Homemade tortilla chips are also easy to make.  Thanks to the Physicians Committee for their tortilla chip recipe.

  • ✓ 1 400g (15oz) can garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
  • ✓ ½ cup aqua faba
  • ✓ 3 garlic cloves
  • ✓ 3 tablespoons tahini
  • ✓ 1 lemon, juiced
  • ✓ ½ teaspoon salt
  • ✓ ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ✓ ¼ teaspoon cumin
  • ✓ 2 corn tortillas
  • ✓ 1 lime, juiced
  1. Drain the garbanzo beans into a bowl and be sure to save the aqua faba (liquid) from the can
  2. Add all the ingredients, up to and including the cumin, into your food processor
  3. Blend for 1-2 minutes until the hummus is creamy
  4. Brush the tortillas with the lime juice and bake in the oven for 10 minutes at 400F (200C)
  5. Cut the cooled tortillas into wedges and enjoy as dippers with the hummus
