  • ✓ 1 8-oz block of tempeh (flavor of choice) – cut into 24 cubes
  • ✓ 1 cup finely ground nuts/seeds (not like dust)
  • ✓ Spices - 1 tsp. each of cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, coconut sugar; 1/4 tsp. of salt and pepper; dash of cayenne (optional)
  • ✓ 1-1/2 T Braggs Liquid Amino Acids or low-sodium tamari
  • ✓ 1 to 1 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (low sugar like Stubb’s Original) or homemade
  • ✓ 8-9 pieces of pickled okra, cut into thirds
  • ✓ Toothpicks
  1. Rinse tempeh block and pat dry. Cut tempeh into 24 equal cubes
  2. Steam tempeh cubes for approximately 10 minutes in a steamer basket. Remove from basket and let dry
  3. Mix the ground nuts and spices together and set aside
  4. Heat the BBQ sauce on low, set aside
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet briefly over medium heat and add and tempeh. Toast in pan until slightly golden on most sides. Alternatively, toss in an air fryer and cook at 380’ F for about 5 minutes, or until crisp on the outside and slightly golden
  6. Place cooked tempeh cubes in a large bowl and toss with liquid aminos or tamari. A spray bottle works well to help evenly coat the tempeh
  7. Dip the tempeh cubes in the heated BBQ sauce of your choice, let excess drip off and then roll in nut and spice mixture
  8. Add a piece of pickled okra to the top of each cube and secure with a wooden toothpick or reusable metal party pick
  9. Place on a platter and serve at room temperature

Enjoy!
