(recipe from passtheplants.com)

  • ✓ 8 large carrots
  • ✓ 8 hot dog buns, whole grain preferred
  • ✓ 1 cup soy sauce or tamari
  • ✓ 2 tablespoons liquid smoke
  • ✓ 2 tablespoons steak sauce or vegan worcestershire sauce
  • ✓ 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • ✓ 2 tablespoons ketchup or tomato paste
  • ✓ 2 cups water
  1. In a large saucepan, add all the ingredients except the carrots and whisk together.
  2. Wash, peel, and shape the carrots with rounded ends and place in the saucepan.
  3. Turn on stovetop to medium heat until boiling. Reduce heat to medium simmer and cook until carrots are just barely fork-tender (8-10 minutes, depending on thickness).
  4. Remove from heat and let sit for 15 minutes.
  5. Remove from the cooking liquid and serve with desired toppings.
